By all means do the resistor trick first, it costs very little to try and it will get you going so you can make the decision later. can u give me a link to the page that the write up is on for the resistor trick http://www.fordmods.com/forums/auto-to- ... 42420.html

I got the factory diagrams for EF, EL, and AU so this made it heaps easier. I wanted to unplug my EL stuff and just plug in the AU stuff. Most of it worked. Would be heaps easier with AU I stuff opposed to II

I'm also interested to know if you can put a AU ECU in EF, it'd be good to be able to get a flash tune done. If anyone knows exactly how to do it, be good if you could post up and tell us, this thread seems to be going no where lol.

Thanks twason for the AU (1?) pinout. - Would be good for sticky in the techo section.
I've lost a little steam with this project- as in new engine using oil & now the BEM 'old dry solder joints - no starting trick, it's dash out for this fix isn't it? |

nar there is 2 screws at the top, you just have to pull the plastic cover around the instrument cluster out.

anyone have an accurate source of EF ECU pinout information (i.e. a workshop manual)?
The spreadsheet posted elsewhere seems to be identical to an AU1 - right down to seperate injector wiring (which i dont think is how my EF is wired up!) more discussion http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... u%20pinout

The EF and AU pinouts are not exactly the same but most are. Ones that spring to mind are the BBM output and AC clutch input is on a different pin, the Fan control is different and has only two outputs on AU as opposed to four on the EF. Diagnostic ports wiring is very different. There are quite a few additional inputs the AU has the EF does not. My study is far from complete but there is nothing except the smartlock/smartshield issue that is a show stopper.

i thought using an AU1 pre-smartshield ECU would circumvent this issue?
would love to see what you have document wrt pinouts etc.

would love to see what you have document wrt pinouts etc. Here is where I am up to. It is a work in progress and may and probably does contain errors.

great work.
looks like converting the EF to EL fans might make the ECU swap easier.
