Hi guys.
Im new to electronic gadgets in cars. Ive got a diesel Nissan Patrol, an MG Midget, and the latest model car Ive ever owned was a 2000 AU station wagon. I had no need to do any mods to that. I want to access all of the ECU engine data. Temps, oil pressure, everything. I want to plug it into a windows tablet, and have it available. Id even like to hook up a HUD at the bottom of the windscreen. What are people using? Is it even possible? |

You can do most of this already with ForScan.
AU's arent fully OBD, but theyre part way there. if you wanted DIY then you can sniff the ELM Data and make your own display. Alternately, The ECU also has Dashboard Data line. Ive already had that decoded enough on to a 1602 display to show gear position, trans Mode (ESS, PWR, ECO), Speed and Engine temp, however the Engine temp Data for the dash is buffered and leveled so the gauge doesnt move much. Awesome. Cheers mate. I figured it had all been done before. Im no trend setter.
Im planning a 4bt build into a GU Patrol, and the starter and fuel solenoid are the only electrics on it. Im going to create my own setup on that, but really, on the Falcon, its just for s**t and giggles, not anything serious. |

You should be able to do yourself a reasonable setup with ForScan for Android, a Bluetooth ELM adapter, and a few minutes. The Andoid version will also now work with *some* usb adapters with an OTG cable, but im not sure which.
iphones require a WIFi ELM, and that means you wont be able to use internet if you use your phone. if you have an old ipad though its a great application for it. Nigel |
