In the ef/el hold the odo button turn the ignition to on and wait for it to go out, but in the AU i have heard it can only be removed by Ford.

No AU is the same process. Hold down the odometer button and turn the ignition to on and hold it for about 5-10secs. The trip comp should beep (if you have one) and the light will go out.

I've got the series II AUXR6 VCT, and I don't have a service light, or it's never come on. What series did the AU introduce the service light?

I'm not sure when they started doing it, but you should have one in the LCD screen. It's pops up every few thousand k's and has an annoying beep to let you know that you're car needs a service.

Nope, never in the 5 years since owning the car from new, has this service warning appeared on my LCD :?: :?: :?: Don't suppose it matters too much anyhow. Perhaps it was introduced with the series III.
