I have an AU 3 XR8 Ute that has an intermittent fuel pump problem that has become extremely annoying. The vehicle was put on a diagnostic machine that said that the fuel pump had failed. The mechanic pulled out the pump and cleaned the strainer and tested it, and it worked fine. It was put back in, and the vehicle was driven out of the workshop. I drove it 100metres to my office and when I came out, NO START!! When the mechanic arrived again, he tried and like magic, it started. The problem progressively has gotten worse to now it will not start at all and the dealer delivered it back to me on a tilt tray. I am looking for advice on where to start next. I can definitely confirm there is no power to the pump right now, and I cannot find any damage to the wiring loom. We have spark etc.

have a real good look at the exposed wires between the rear of the cab and the fuel tank, its common for it to rub through there.
Why did the dealer return the car to you on a tilt tray? |

The car was returned because they had done all they could. They were even nice enough to send me a bill for a couple of grand for their work. As it is the only AU XR8 here in PNG, they put it in the all to hard basket. This is just one of numerous problems with it. The car has only done 48,000Kms. No diagnostic faults, but no go. I will check the wiring again. We have the tray off it at the moment.
