Yeah, hearing you - so long since I've done anything from the command prompt that I am now intimidated by it. I'm all used to using menus now, with everything spelt out for you. My propellor fell off many years ago.....

Hi Again Lukeyson,
Just a quick question for you on your elm 327. What version are you using? I had a look at the Elm Electronics site and the new ELM327 V1.2 now supports 500 Kbps on the rs 232 side which should fix some of the problems you where having with speed a while back. See Ya |

The OBDAllInOne is an ELM327 1.1 based device. As I understood it there's another chip that does the RS232 conversion from the ELM PIC based chip.
So you're saying the ELM now goes faster? That would be neat. But I think I'm limited to the PCB setup on my current unit. I have a Mongosse CAN/ISO now so can go at full speed. But the ELM keeps the propeller occupied for now until I can come up to speed with J2534. Lukeyson |

Hi Lukeyson,
In regards to the Elm 327 1.2 the baud rate is now set in the software of the chip itself. I'm going to get a mate who is into elctronics to see if the V1.2 can be used as a direct replacement for the V1.1 in a unit I bought from scantool.net. See Ya Foggy |

Hi Lukeyson,
I had another look at the elmelectronics page and under the whats new heading they actually state that the V1.2 is pin compatible with older Elm327 chips. Also with the baurd rate the jumper still sets the default rate which can then be overidden using an at comand. Ok Hope this helps you out. See Ya |

yeah, you're right.
I can get up to 112kpbs out of my OBD2AllInOne, and the buffer changes from 12 to 256. I'm also interested in the ISO9141 non-standard address 5-baud start. For $30 USD (and the Exchange Rate about to hit 90c), I think I'll give it a go after all! In the meantime though I've been helping make progress in ironing out a J2534 sniffer utility. Almost there. The biggest benefit of the Mongoose over the ELM other than the speed, is that the Mongoose can sniff on the CAN and ISO buses at the same time. ELM can only do one at a time. a few things to report:
(1) ELM327 1.2a chip works fine in an OBD2AllInOne, and now pumps at 115200 bps (as opposed to the 38400 i had before). With this, in combination with the bigger buffers, I can now read a whole lot more without overflowing the buffers. There are some features with ISO9141 that have proven useful too. (2) Would anyone be impressed if I said I now know how to turn Police Mode on and off on an Instrument Cluster with just an ELM327? Lukeyson |

Well, to be honest, I've only just captured the commands of a successful enable and disable of Police Mode using another tool. I haven't yet done it with just the ELM.
But since I finally have some time to scratch my hairy knackers, I'll be stepping outside in a few minutes to give it a go. brb. Lukeyson |
