Ok guys I'm posting this topic on behalf of my brother. He has a EL Falcon that we have converted to a T5. Problem is we can't find a manual ECU anywhere in Melbourne and Fraud wants 1150 quid for a brand new one, which my bro cannot afford.
So after a bit of research through Fordmods and a few other ford sites we decided to try "tricking" the ecu through a process described on here. Soldering a .25w 7.5kohm resistor between pin 30 and pin 46 iirc. Problem is when we went to jaycar the guy said there is no such resistor at this rating... but gave us a .50w 7.5kohm. We've tried it and the car is running a little better.... but still floods above 4k rpm, rather than around 3k rpm before we soldered the resistor in. Do you guys reckon its the resistor that is the problem here? Not giving the right resistance value to ther ECU? There seems to be a little debate as to whether this actually works in the first place. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated guys. |

We've decided to go with a j3 chip and a custom map.... as this ECU "trick" is probably not a a good way to be running your car anyway.
A manual ECU is near impossible to find and anyone who has one wants top dollar. Guess the mods can close this thread if they like. |

just so you know the resistor trick will have nothing to do with the car flooding at 3 or 4000 rpm.. it sounds like your problem is else where..
the resistor trick is 2 resistors.. 1 is for the idle speed only/gear position switch (7k ohm between pin 30 and 46)and the other is a 1.2k ohm between pin 42 and 46 for auto trans temp sensor for the thermo fans.. |
