I know each ecu is made for a particular diff ratio... if my car has a different diff ratio, will the speed shown on my speedo be different?

your speedo sensor in your gearbox does that for you .

Just take into account wheel sizes, etc ..

Ah ok.. so if take the ECU out of a car with a 3.08 diff ratio and put it into a car with a 3.23 diff ratio.. the speed will still read correctly?

If you use the right speedo gear, yes!

So I'll have to change the speedo sender gear?

Jaysen,

Are EF Tickford ECU's set for a different diff ratio then?

My EF has a 3.08, so if I put in a Tickford ECU, will this throw my speedo out?

a tickford ecu will not though your speedo out, its the speedo gears that give you the speed on your speedo .

Yep, ECU has nothing to do with the speedo.
You won't have to change anything else if you change the ECU.

If you change the diff ratio, that's when you have to change the speedo sender.

I am about to put in an Interceptor ECU. It still retains the factory ECU as its piggy back but you still have to wire in your speedo sender as it will remove the limiter. The Halwin software allows you to either retain your original speedo setting, or dial in your own Freq to allow for differnt diffs and wheel sizes!

I've just picked up an EF 6 cyl Tickford ECU, and I want to put it in place of the stock EF ECU.

You say that the speedo will only be thrown out if I change my stock 3.08 diff to a 3.45.

So does that mean the Tickford ECU will work fine in my car?

I heard that the shift points will be out of whack if I try using it without a diff & speedo gear change ...is this true?

Should I just hold back on swapping ECU's until I get the diff (& speedo gear) changed?

That's correct.
Shift points will be a little off though, like you said.

How badly off, ...and in what way?

To be safe, should I forget about installing the Tickford ECU until I get my cam, 3.45 diff & speedo gear, then?
