Did anyone see the report on ethanol in our fuel - 10% and 5% blends.
Claims that 10% gets more kilometres from your tank. Has anyone bought E10 and noticed a difference compared to PULP or ULP? The bad news is, the ethanol blended fuel is being charged at the same price (per litre) as ULP.

Henry Ford was a huge supporter of ethanol fuel as he wanted the money from fuel sales to go to the farmers. But I think petrol won over due to being easy to supply and cheap back in the day.
In regards to ethanol, a few years ago there was complaints and that about servos adding ethanol to the petrol, so how come it's acceptable now? |

Cause a few years ago, it wasn't regulated. Some Servo operators were putting huge amounts of Ethanol into the fuels they were selling.
Now it can only be a maximum of 10% with any fuel sold. |

Well, for starters, loss of power by 2 to 3%.
Any more than 10% can damage fuel lines.

Yeah it does have corrosive properties, but i heard that there are a great deal of other 'stuff' to neutralise anything harmful.
Tests have shown you should actually get an increase in performance over PULP. The downside is that you have to advance your timing to get these benfits. Couldn't be easy with factory ECU, right? Even with all that said, i'm not 100% game to try it just yet. |

Depends on teh car, e.g. EF and EL I6's should automatically advance the timing themselves, weather the ECU can do it enough is another story. The distrubter cars should be able to be manually advanced. |

Well would this fuel be alright to use in the windsor?
I can get E10 from my local 7/11 at the same price as ULP and s**t if the test shows that you can get more mileage I'll buy it but I want to be sure it wont f**k the engine at all?

The distrubter cars should be able to be manually advanced. not true.. while they do have knock sensors, these will only retard the timing at the time of need. if the base timing isnt advanced then they won't advance themselves.

G'day
The latest street machine mag has a write up on this very topic. I dont have it with me but i think it says that the e10 is more fuel effiecant and it produces more horsepower. As for the corrosion i'm not sure but i know if i put e10 in my carby wagon it runs on after you switch the key off and pings like crazy. Cheers

the hype around ethanol is unjustifed fact cars in canda have been using higher blended enthanol fuel for 15-20yrs now with no probs. fact Cairns city council runs their fleet on them no probs and Cairns MP Warren Entch runs his harley on it too. I ran it in my old ute xg longreach, and xh work ute and my xr6 sedan no problems at all you wouldn't even know the difference. Lastly I saw on TT or ACA some dude that owns a servo running his BA on E85 (yeap 85% blend) no internal engine mods just some box under the bonnet which he reckons cost 250 bucks (dunno how it works might adjust timing I suppose) and yes no probs. |
