With my EF Xr6, i was tossing up between Chiptorque, or wait for those CAPA Flash Tunes. What would be better?
So far ive done: Exhaust/Cat, Extractors & soon to be Cam. ECU is next on the list.

Ive heard good things about Chiptorque, but what could I expect for from the flash tune, and when will that come out.

Are there many differences?

I was also thinking about the WOLF, but i dont think i will be doing anything else to my car so someone recommended to just go with a chiptorque, but id like to know a bit more aboutt he flash tunes.

cheers

Technically speaking, chiptorques and the capa 'flash tuner' are the same thing. The flash tuner may have more functionality unlocked but i doubt it. Chiptorque is here now and they have experience with tuning it while the capa isnt here yet (has been comming soon for years) and when it does come out it will be similar to the au/ba edit where the first bunch of customers get some cruddy tunes while the tuners figure it all out.

Only possible reason I can see for the CAPA 'flash' tuner is if they unlock auto trans control [edit: and SSS for you EL Gayer fan boys]...
AFAIK Chiptorque dont have that functionality?
But the CAPA tuner is like the Yeti.
Big, hairy, and probably a myth..

You can't properly compare the two, as one doesn't exist yet, no one actually knows at this stage what it is capable of, what the cost is, etc..

just got an email saying that they will be in melbourne, and that they will be able to custom tune it for $300.
so $595 for the chip and $300 (or maybe more) for tuning.. isthat worth it?

make that 5 (i've got both hands up :) )
one of my good mates has an EF XR6 - cam, extractors, exhaust, high flo cat, 5spd, a bit of internal work too and he's just put the chiptorque computer in and he's a bit bummed the he's now got a speed limiter (d***head) but it reaches that limiter dam fast now... definately go the chiptorque.... there's only so much a stock computer can do

Chiptorque: $595
+ $300 per hour for tuning (quoted approx 2 hours.. hence $600 on tuning)
= $1195

No price on flash tune

But on Chiptorques website it says tuning is $200 and hour @ 1.5 = $300 making it $895 all up

If i just give them a list of mods, they program it in and thats $595. Would that be enough? or is custom (dyno) tuning the way to go? i mean $300-$600 for tuning seems alot?

Try the $595 off the shelf tune, and if thats not close enough then go the custom tune. I think the price of the custom tune depends on how much the dyno charges chiptorque for the time (The price you pay for a custom tune = chiptorque time + how much they pay for the dyno).

$1200 isnt bad still. That would be a very cheap price for a custom tuned unichip and the chiptorque is a better product.

When i put the unichip on my 5.0, it was 1195 fitted and tuned, but it needed to be retuned 3 times and it still wasnt right, so $1200 for a custom tune sounds good to me. I ended up going full programmable injection and haven't looked back.
