I guess this is an ignition question and not a fuel question, but hey this forum is probably the best one for it.
When I did an engine off diagnostic the error 214 "CMP sensor out of range" was thrown up in the memory faults section, indicating an intermittent fault. Anyone have details on what this sensor actually does? Ive been having occasional misfires under heavy throttle and flat spotting/bogging down when the engine is cold which im trying to diagnose.

according to google, a CMP sensor is a camshaft position sensor

CMP sensor informs the ECU of when #1 TDC is on Compression or Exhaust.
It sits in place of the Dizzy as found in the EA-ED/EL models (under the intake manifold, around #2 cyl). Check all wiring from the ECU to the sensor, as they rarely fail. It may be an open circuit causing an issue. If it has failed, its only 30 mins to swap it over.

The CMP i believe is the cam position sensor. Hehe it actually did, I typo'd it then quickly corrected I think i'll reset the codes, then do another diagnostic in a week to see if it comes back.

Yeah i agree with Brad. Most likley a poor/open input/ouput circuit as opposed to component failure.
