Hey team, quick question..
I had thought it was my BA's auto on the way out, so didn't delve much deeper into it because I had already planned on the manual conversion.. Now that the manual is in, i realise it is an engine issue.. When the engine is warmed up, on random occasions it will stall when climbing through the rev range. Sometimes on partial throttle, sometimes on full throttle. But it isn't a consistent problem. purely random, but sometimes will happen a few times in a row. When the car dies it cuts into limp mode (engine light illuminates) then I have to turn the key back one position, then foreward again to the previous position (no need to actually crank the engine, just has to reinitialise) then the car's fully operational again. At idle, it never really wants to idle. When first started the car will idle, but wants to die, when revs drop to 200rpm it'll idle upto 1100rpm or so, then drop back down to idle. When it's warm it wont idle back up, it will just die. So would you think the coils are the most likely cause, or does it sound more like a fuel supply problem? Any help will be much appreciated! Happy Motoring! |

Time for the fly by wire throttle system to be checked for a recall by a dealership.
Early BA TPS units were up the duff |

Its a bit of a delay on the response, but you were 100% right, the car's driving like a dream. The TPS sensor was obviously on its way out, so $155.60 later, the car is absolute pleasure!
Cheers heaps for your help! Happy Motoring! |

They claimed that the product wasn't actaully a recall, more that a revised part was brought out to replace a previous version. They said that due to many BA's not suffering the problem that there would still be a cost involved, then he told me it would be atleast $320 I scoffed and asked how much for the part alone. He quoted $180, but I went to the local (but quality) auto shop (Odin Auto Parts) and they gave me a better price! However I had to wait for them to get it so I went to amcap and got the same price.
In reality $155 was a small price to pay for an instant fix, I was considering buying a new block to put in whilst I rebuilt this one, just means I can wait a while before a performance rebuild.. Cheers for your help anyway! Champion effort! Happy Motoring! |
