Im running forced induction and want to make a custom intake manifold / plenum, and as such i need to get rid of the dizzy...i know people have done this swap, im curious as to how hard a swap it is? And what is involved as far as parts go?

Modified Holden 5.0 dissy, with no cap. It provides the cam/crank sensors, then AU coil packs, then aftermarket ECU. Did mine with an 8860 and had to use the EMS ignitors, that was about it. Be aware the PIP signal from the dissy is needed for you AC to work, but there is a way around it.

Brett Brett why does the ac need a PIP signal? my PIP and Spout are both connected to the megasquirt and my aircon works fine.. does the aircon pickup the signal between the dizzy and the ecu? also what mods are needed to run a 5.0holden dizzy? im considering the same option if i can organise some igniters.. -mitch

my appologies i just had another think about how my car is setup, my stock ecu does still have a PIP signal (be it a fake one) ive got the tach output from my msd box running to the PIP on the stock ecu.
I hooked it up like that to get the stock ecu to control my thermo fans, as it wont run them without the engine running. I assume that the stock ecu wont engage the aircon compressor unless it believes the engine is running also... -mitch

Exactly. as ^^^. My fans wouldnt run unless the stock ecu saw the PIP signal, to engage the AC. As for mods, speak to Joe, he organised a nice billet 5.0 EFI VR Dissy to supply cam and crank. I have the necessary bits and pieces for the AU set up, but it worked out easier this way.

Dizzy is small, doesnt have a cap with wires, is just a blanked off alloy cap. I mounted my coils on top same as AU, even used an AU mounting bracket. Check this pic http://www.fordmods.com/forums/gallery. ... =12592&m=0
Sorry it doesnt show the dissy, but as you can see, the dissy actully fits under the coils. Brett
