I'm having trouble understanding what the deal is with chips/piggybacks such as Unichip, etc, etc compared to Aftermarket ECUs like MoTeC, EMS, Wolf, etc
I realise that AM ECUs are able to control almost every aspect of your engine very easily with a laptop but from what I gather Unichips, j3, etc are just....... one of chips that control...... fuel injection times?...... and have to be reprogrammed to accomodate upgrades? How in-depth are piggyback chips? How much do they control? Any info will be a big help, thanks guys!

If you have got an EF, all non OEM ECU's will be piggy back if you want your other items on your dash to work, as they rely off the DOL from the ECU to operate, ie RPM. For street driving OEM is by far the best option for most people, check out the tuning wth the F3 chips, you have more control, more drivability, and less mucking around with aftermarket ECU's that dont work with everything like the standard one does. I am biased, but I also know that ford spent a lot more money than all the aftermarket ECU companies added together on the EEC project, and they got it pretty damn right for what it was intended for...... street cars which 99% of people drive!
