ok guys i know this kind of topic has been posted heaps

i drove about 3 kms tonite and my trip told me id gone 12kms!
even when i was sitting at the lights the range reading on the trip was getting smaller.
if its anything important it was pretty cold outside
i dont think this is normal and would appreciate advice if anyone knows whats happening. also my temp gauge NEVER goes into the normal range. i think this is the cause, not too sure though.

thanks heaps

Kezz

if its allways running cold, the ECU will be dumping fuel n to try to heat it up..... either some genius has either removed the thermostat, or the thermo is f**k to start with

just one more question
is changing the thermostat a backyard job or something best left to the pros?

f**k piss easy

let the car cool down, release any remaing pressure from the cooling system, undo the top hose radiator hose where it goes onto the thermostat housing, unbolt the thermostat housing, remove it and the thermostat, clean up the lower thermostat housing, put new thermostat in, use a bit of gasket goo and the gasket if applicable, and bolt the new thermostat housing in place, refit the top hose, refill the cooling system, bleed the air out of it and you're set

If you don't want ot loose a couple of litres of coolant or make a mess on the garage floor you can syphon some out, by sticking a small tube down the header tank and into the hose that runs half way down the radiator, then syphon it into a container.

And the most important piece of advice:

NEVER, EVER, mix different brands of coolants. Dont even mix different types from the same manufacturer or brand.

If you dont have more coolant from the original bottle you added when you or the previous person put coolant into the system, completely flush the system with fresh water then add fresh coolant.

Do a google search for "mixing engine coolants" to see how quickly it can destroy your engine, radiator and complete cooling system....
