Have you given the ECU a bit of time to adjust to the new cam? Usually after a cam swap the car will behave a bit odd until the ECU relearns its maps again after a while of driving.

The 1673 shouldn't require a custom tune in order for it to run properly.

the 1673 doesnt usually need a tune, anything bigger will run rich and need a tune, maybe try disconnecting the battery over nite which ressets the ecu all together, then reconnect it in the morning and let it relearn all over again

A Vernier Gear is an adjustable Cam Sprocket.

you shouldnt need a chip to run a 1673 cam..
maybe the engine is a little tired?? cam change= drop in manifold vacuum= poor map signal at idle.. if the engine has alot of kms on it the manifold vac may be a little low to start off with??
