Three times now my car has started and run fine...then flat out died after 10-20 minutes, then refuses to start. Always seems to happen on the way to work...hmmm
I have good fuel flow and a new battery, but no spark (from the plug leads, forgot to check coil). Anyway, after browsing this wonderful forum and reading these posts

I have come to the conclusion something is electrically FUBAR.
So my question is, if it's an electrical fault, what do I check and how?

Update: No spark from coil. 11.5 volts from the coil plug.....
*RIP* my coil.

quite common for coils to go after the k's start getting clocked up. Also, had you cleaned the engine bay with a hose or anything recently?

LOL..I haven't even washed the car in 14 months........
I got it to my local legend of a mechanic (Bridge st Picton, tell your friends :D ). He replaced the module (the one under the dizzy) and it ran sweet. Then it did the same thing again, to the sound of me screaming. But, it was a faulty module and will be replaced again tomorrow.

Yeah I had that same problem with the module on the side of my dizzy... Would work fine for a bit then wont run at all. Seems to be a common problem.

Yay, all fixed now. Coil lead was shorting out on the dipstick stem (apparently happens a bit), which fried the TFI module. Replaced the TFI module and the coil lead and it's all happy now.

really? how close was the stem to the coil lead, was the lead exposed?

The lead passes the dipstick, but either the stem is a little bent or my lead is a little long. Either way, the occasional bump let the 2 contact and there was a little scorch mark on the stem and lead. However, the lead looked to be in pretty good condition.

Aaaargh, more dramas!!!! It started doing the same thing again. Yesterday it died 5 min after starting it. I left it for 30min, checked all the plugs (still no go), pulled the fuel line off to check the pump was still ok and when I re-attached it, it started. That's the 2nd time disconnecting the fuel line got it started, but it didn't the other 3 times (maybe unrelated).
This morning on the way to work, I lost power. The engine was still running, but slowing down. When I pushed the accelerator the revs started to drop. As soon as I pulled it out of gear to roll off the road, the engine totally died.
This is driving me NUTS :x
Any suggestions would be appreciated as myself and 2 mechanics are scratching our heads and swearing profusely. :x

hi
i would say if it was loosing power while the engine was running i would look towards your fuel pump/relay or maybe your fuel filter is blocked restricting fuel flow..

my first thought was bad connection at relay or the relay is on the way out getting hot and cutting out..?

Fuel Filter would be my opinion, cheap so even if it isnt, you know you still have a new filter in there

Fuel filter was the first thing I replaced and as far as I knew Fuel pumps didn't so much as die, but just totally stop.
The relay behind RHS headlight ticks over when I turn the keys, or do you mean a different one?
I don't think that it's heat, because it has happened after 5 minutes of running, and 30 minutes of running, in rain, in sun, in the cold, the middle of the day..... driving me nuts.
Feel free to call me a moron if I assumed wrong.

hmm
i meant electrical heat created within the relay..eg resistance heat??
it only a guess.
have you tried a different relay?
also try spraying wd 40 on the relay conections and check the pins on the relay. one dirty or bad conection can cause it to stop at the slightest bump
try checking the plug for corrosion or a loose conection at the fuel pump aswell..

i had similar issues with my starter relay.
some bodge a** decided by-pass it and add extra relay.

after a bit of investigating i found that the original relay and relay block had corrosion on the pins.
after a little wd spray and new relay its been good ever since.. :)

i hope you find the  gremlins...
