Use a 0.25w 540 ohm resistor in series with an LED. Because LED's are diodes, current will only flow in 1 direction so make sure you connect it the right way around on the circuit to test. When I made mine, I mounted it in a pen (without the ink tube) with a sharp probe through the top of the pen opening, burnt a hole through the side for the LED to sit in and connected the other side with a long wire and an aligator clip on the end.

hey mate, count it when its on but dont count it when its flickering incoherently at the start, as that is just ECU jibberish not intended to be read. Make sure you have a pen and paper ready as the things bloody quick!

sorry to steal the thread here but since we are on the topic of ECC code readings i might as well ask the noob question..........how exactly are the codes read? as in do u just use a multimeter plug it into the diagnostic pins thingy and ur multimeter shows a bunch of numbers? or is there a special way of getting those codes? im totally lost.

phong =P~

use the led method MUCH easyier. bassicly it is on/off/onn/of with the multi meter it had a slow refresh rate.

get a led (bright but not 2 bright) 540ohm 1/4w reistor, 1m of solid core network cable just to use as bridge. and i got some small luds tgat i bent a bit to make fitm small heat shrink to keep it together as i did not solder it.

total cost <$5 and i got extra stuff to play with eg diffrent leds, diffeent reisters worth its weight in gold
