Okay i have a Series I EB with a 3.9L MPEFI and 4 speed auto. the computer behind the LH kick panel is ticking when under acceleration and it idles at 1500rpm every now and then. Can i fit a ED XR6 computer just unplug and plug back in or do i have to bypass the smart lock?

I have an EA Series 2 with the same problem. No-one seems to know what the cause is or how to fix it. Have you had it disconnected recently? One option is to replace it with another EB Series 1 ECU (to see if it's definitely the ECU playing up).
With regard to the ED ECU, have a read of 'EL Computer into EA' posted by Frankieh. You'll need the Smartlock Bypass and some rewiring from the EB TCM to the ED ECU. I'm waiting to see how Frankieh went with his wiring. I'm planning to replace my ECU with an EDXR6 or ELXR6 ECU to compliment some engine mods.

Yes you will need to put in a smartlock bypass to do that conversion. And if you are going to do that you might as well get an el xr computer and hook up the bbm. Its only a few more wires. If I were you I would just get another stocko computer. They are cheap at the wreckers (less than 100 bux) and I think I even have a couple in my back shed...

yeh i'm just getting a EB Series I computer from the wreckers today. the computer makes a ticking noise you can here while driving. also the gas backfired through the intake once. i reckon the throttle position sensor may be damaged
