Changed my oxy sensor and put a can of wynns throttle body cleaner through it....
and reset the puter... economy now 9.2 p/100... i know its only early days and it might take a week or 2 to get a accurate reading, but im impressed aready.... and its more responsive too!!

Try changing the oxy sensor like me and put a can of throttle cleaner through it.... and watch what happens.. And its easy to change, takes 5 minutes...

i use 'power' for city driving, as it seems to select gears at a better time and gives me a little bit more a punch for navigating traffic, and honestly i find it uses less fuel than economy in the city.
the only time i use economy is on interstate/long drives, where the car is set on cruise at 95-100km/hr for extended periods

thanks teveo, you mentioned the oxy sensor being on the exhaust, i'm no mechanic, so could you perhaps step me through it?
also, do i buy an oxy sensor new or 2nd hand, and what's the approximate cost? cheers |

Your lucky, my ef mont is lucky to better 17.5 at the moment and yes the oxy sensor has been replaced...... ever since ive fitted the cam its been like this. Highway driving is still great though at 9. |

ive got a 94 ef, with extractors and all that jazz.
my average l/100klms is at 8.9, thats both a mix of highway and city driving. at 100kph mine gets about 5.5 or 6l/100klms and at 120 its at about 8-9l/100klms. so wether my cars a freak or theres just something plain wrong with it? cos you guys are saying yours is like 13???

yep, 13.2 to be exact, and i only travel about 20km per day, on a pretty straight and relatively unobstructive path (no real congestion) average speed about 70km/h, perhaps i need to check the oxy sensor...

(Pimp the sponsors!) if not, efi_parts_australia on ebay is a good start. i got mine for $60 posted (thats pritty good) the sensor is the only sensor that comes out of the exhaust. mines relocated so i cant tell you exactly where it is. but it comes out of the headers. just need an adjustable spanner to take it out. the sensor has two wires coming out of it. (i think) if not 2, 3 wires

also, do i buy an oxy sensor new or 2nd hand, and what's the approximate cost? cheers Dude always buy brand new... they arent dear, i saw them on ebay for about $50. i got one from me parts guy.... anyhow... its just below your exhaust flange, from your exhaust manifold, you will see the exhaust pipe, and this thing with 3 wires sticking out if it, you cant miss it, if its a genuine ford one in it, it will have black and white wires. All you have to do is get ya spanner undo it, unplug it, than screw the new one in, plug it in..... Make sure its tight, but dont over do it. I also undid my battery for a hour to reset the computer. Make sure you have the radio code!!! otherwise you wont be able to use the radio again!! Hook battery back up. Also get a can of throttle body cleaner, take the pipe off the air box that goes to the throttle body, start the car...... find the throttle cable so you can rev it while you spray the cleaner down that pipe... you will have to give it a good reevvvin.. or it will stall when you spray.... if its a little hard to start after that dont worry... it will kick over and go back to its old self Have a look at the tip of your old sensor, it will prolly be white and corodid.... The pic is a oxy sensor... its so basic...... Today i did a few k's, and the fuel has jumped up to 11.5 p/100 which is still better than 14.... I use only 98 octane, i also have a redline air filter, which might make it use more fuel too.. and im pretty heavy on the pedal to.. Hope this helps.... let me know what you get it up to, and remember it will prolly take a week to get a real accurate reading....

um dont think so. Not unless your driving a Hyundai Excel. Try filling the car up and work the km's off your trip meter, then when filling up again take note how many litres it took to fill and the size of the tank and work it out from there |

Been to the dealer and they told me around town it can be worse in econ as it can labour at low revs actually using more fuel and reducing the life of the transmission.

ive noticed in my EA wjth ECO off the car picks up faster to say overtake but when slowing down for round abouts or speed humps my diff makes a slight clunking noise where as in ECO on the diff never clunks when slowing down hard. Also when i go up steep hills or have a car load once it starts to die in the a*** in ECO on i press the switch to POWER and it kicks down a gear then i switch it back and it changes back.
I leave mine in ECO on most of the time as i cruise but when im late for work (every morning) I use both.
