Then this guy is on drugs..

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 0259353500

I asked him for the code.. he wrote back that it's an this is how he responded:
----------
Hi, 6tbb also this came out of an el xr6 auto.
----------

According to the chart at the start of this topic, its a police spec EL...

So not really worth it over a stardard ECU then?

Not since galalapos01 (spelling?) can re-tune/map your ECU to any other ECU of the same type. He has a thread on here about it.

EG: EF GLI I6 to EF XR6 or EL Futura I6 to EL Police I6 etc

was only a bargain if it was XR6

Hey fellas. Have an ECU with a 4DKE catch code from a 95 EF XR8 Auto.
Would this be correct in your opinion?

1996 EF ex-pursuit 5.0

Hi. Could not find this catch code in any of the lists. The car was a 6/95 XR8 that it came from. Catch code was very close to the one listed for the Pursuity in the main list, but not exact. Where did you get your info from if you dont mind me asking? Regards Greg

Hi. I got this info from one of my files about ECUs, based on different sources, including this site also. If you are looking for official confirmation try Ford. I am pretty sure that after couple of calls to different dealerships you will get right answer.
Regards, Peter

3TBA is a ED XR8 Auto ECU, NOT AN ED XR6 AUTO ECU

Just thought I would say that.

3TBA = ED/XG/NC - XR6 Wagon/Ute, Fairlane Sportsman (long wheel base) auto ECU

EBII/ED XR8 Auto = 1DEA

EBII GT/ Sprint Auto (200kw) = 2DDA

XG 5.0L Auto = 3DFA.

this info direct from ford work shop manuel..

Have just been through this ENTIRE thread looking for

4DCD

as originally supplied in a 95 Fairmont Wagon (you know - Long wheel base, 3.23 diff, AUTO, inline 6)

Guess what? There's no mention of a 4DCD anywhere. Although there is mention of the code on the PDF associated with the J3 chip replacement on one of the suppliers websites. All I know is that I put this 4DCD unit into my Futura when things started going wrong and it works sweet.

Am now investigating issues with the auto to manual conversion so am finding a manual EF series ECU - or maybe a manual AU series 1 ECU would work?!

Ho hum...

Add 4DCD to the list....

Mate - Thanks for that, but have been an avid follower of that thread for quite sometime too. Have learnt all sorts about things from reading up on what the damn things do!

A guy I sold a radiator to last week said "Mate, if I was you I'd go back to an earlier one, at least you wont have a computer to worry about..."

Bloody New Zealanders. After working out a little about how they operate and what you can do, there's no bloody way I'm going to the EL distributor system, never mind anything older than EF.

One day there'll be a variable F6 motor under my trusted right boot, until then I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this insurance payout...!

I've got a 95 EF Fairmont sedan, 4.0L auto, and I looked at my ecu earlier today coz im trying to find a new one, and my code is 4DCD, which according to this list is for a wagon... Should I be worried? And should I get the same code if I'm chasing a new ecu, or order one of the 4DCF ones?

The main difference between wagon and sedan ECU's is the transmission change possitions.. as for the engine side of things there is no difference..
4DCD and 4DCF are basicly the same thing, the 4DCF is just a leter version of the 4DCD..
I'd be chasing a 4DBx (x Being any letter) this would be much more common, and cheaper to buy, there is a guy on ebay that has heaps of them for sale, about $30ea IIRC...

Cheers man. So wouldnt I be best off chasing a 4DCF? Get everything back into line for a sedan? I've been in contact with that guy on ebay, looks lioke pretty much all of what he has is just as cheap. He's got 4DCD's, dunno about CF's tho.
