For that sort of money you could get a custom J3 chip to change to manual and get a much better tune. Mine works great with my auto ECU thou I only have a 6cyl.

nope? the el fairmont ghia had the tickford engine and the ghia ecu is set up for the ghia options but afaik has the advantage of tickford maps..

if you have the bin files for the 6djb you could compare it to the xr6 and confirm weather or not it is correct. as im going on info that has been passed onto me..
but the tickford engine ghia do have the 6d catch code..

My 1998 ELXR8 has 6DHD I have converted it to Manual.
I have aquired these ecu which 1 would be the best to use.

6DFC - Jan 1997 EL XR8, manual, 3.23 diff.
6DFD - 1998 series1 XR8 (lo-po).
Dave.

I'd use the 6DFD as yours is 6DHD it will have identical maps..

Well yeah hi-po is high performance so it goes without saying what lo po is - does seem odd to announce it though!
Still looking for a 6DGC ecu !!!!!

Can do this on a chip, if you're interested.

the reason i'm after this ECU is because i bought a powerchip from this forum and i can't get it to work, the seller eventually said tough - i got ripped you too! just flog it off to the next sucker! but i can't do that, so i wanna try another ecu.

whilst on the chip though my brother in law has a 4DKF in his XR8 ex HWP that goes nice in the Fairlane too as i swapped them over when he lent me the car, and that would be good, but what can you do with the V8 auto shift module to change gears at 5,700 like his does? any ideas? so how much are the chips? sounds interesting

What model/bin/box code was the PowerChip? If it contains a compatible EL V8 bin and you cleaned your J3 contacts well, there's really nothing else it could be.

Can't do much with shift patterns in the V8s but have noticed that on my own car when I raise the rev limiter the WOT shifts seem to move with it.

Send me a PM if you're after more info, starting to get this thread OT...
