if it shifts according to speed as data_mine said, then you will need to change them, because otherwise the ECU will shift earlier if Im understanding correctly. because it is seeing a higher speed than what you are actually travelling.
Cheers

lets just say on a 3.08:1 geared car first gear redline is say 82km/h
when the car is fitted with a 3.08 diff the car speed and the speedo indicated will be the same. now fit this car with a 3.45:1 diff the car speed is now say 73km/h but the speedo will still read 82km/h because the tailshift speed has not changed. now do as every one does and fit the correct speedo gear so that car speed matches the speedo indicated speed and the ECU will now only ever be able to see 73km/h at redline. and since it changes on speed not rpm it will never get to the shift point. so just leave the speedo gear that matches the ECU in the car and there will be no shift point problems. if you are worried about the speedo being wrong use a frequency converter AFTER the ECU and befor the speedo. problem solved |

I'm so confused...
What happens if I have an ecu from a car with a 3.08:1 diff ratio... and my car has a 3.23:1 diff ratio??? Because I think the shift points are a lot sooner... does this sound right? also, any way around this? |

so let me get this right
i'm going to put a 3.45 lsd in my gli with a xr6 ECU and use a frequency converter and every thing will be ok ??????

basically what has been said is you use a frequency converter, but after the ECU, as in for the dash, not for the VSS pin on the ECU.
Cheers

Cheers So doing that will fix the shift points? |

according to tickford_6 and data_mine, it will leave them as standard. without moving them around.
Cheers

You need to get the 3.45 speedo gear too. Forget the frequency converter. What you said would be right if you were sticking with your gli ecu.

ok let make it simple.
match the speedo gear to the ECU, to get the right shift points. but the speedo reading will be wrong. if you match the speedo gear to the diff gears the speedo will be right. but the shift points will be wrong. |

But if everything matches it's all good. ECU, diff, speedo gear. AS is teh case with efbignik, if he gets the right speedo gear, he won't need the freq converter, as the diff and ECU match already.
