It's probaly way over the top if you're just doing simple mods.

Over the top it would be.. but only for now. They are a great system with lots of expandibility. So with more mods, it would pay itself off.
The EMS 8860 is a great ECU (its not a chip btw), with lots of features, and lots of accuracy. The review speaks for itself. The gear to install is apprently straight foward, and the tuning, is not very hard, especially with the graphics in front of you. Just play trial and error, and soon you will learn what does what. Definately a worthwhile investment if you keep going with mods.. Cheers

Think about what you really want to end up with... a programable ecu will support every future upgrade... headwork, cams ect. BUT, your looking at a good 2 or so grand to start with and then there is the fact that most user adjustable ecus are not legal...
The eec can be chipped to suport upto 200wkws, but its a new chip every time you need it retuned to suit the new application |

Hmmm, I've been toying with the idea of getting a standalone aftermarket ECU to play with as well.
Should get off my a*** and check the EEC code of the Sprint, see if twEECer supports it... Does anyone know/has heard of anyone being done for having a progammable ECU? What sort of penalty would it be I wonder? It's own, or just under illegal mod? Also, CHEF was your Wolf included in the engineering or, cough, dont you have a Wolf?

Dude its tha same thing, the standard ecu will be fine for most mods poeple do... wait till you have mods that require alot more fuel, such as BIG cam/headwork, forced induction ect
