dropped the ecu out of my ef fairmont today to get the code off it. Disconnected the negative lead off the battery when I did it. About 3 odd hours later I plugged the old ecu back in and my remote entry wont work. I didnt try to start it. Now tomorrow I am getting another ecu of "the man" SWC. With the ecu replacement for tomorrow do I just need to re-programe the remote entry or is there another process to set the bcm itself?
The reason I am asking is I suspect the ecu being the cause of the car not starting and I dont want to replace the ecu and then not get the car started not because of the new ecu but for something simple like something to do with resetting the bcm and the car not starting because the immobiliser is active. |

when i changed my ecu, the car started straight away without needing to leave the ignition on for 30 minutes to relearn the ignition etc, but i dont know about the standard central locking side of things because my car had an aftermarket alarm/central locking pad

Thanks mate, if it wont start after the ecu change, then I will leave it on reds for 30 minutes and see how that goes. Hope it kick tomorrow first turn....

Just plug it in and away you go, that's all there is to it.

If the ECU doesn't help, I have a feeling you may have a smartlock issue. One of the things smartlock does is shut the signal down to the injectors.

yeah the immobiliser, thought that. I did leave the car on reds for 30 minutes and tried, but if the smartlock is rooted then it wont make a difference. Thats the BCM right? the green box under the dash near your left knee? I did try to hit it and start the car, but if its really rooted it might not have made a difference. I didnt get to go down to your mates till 6pm because of my C*** boss jacking up my work when I told him I needed to get the ecu ( was at Katoomba at 5.30pm) and I grabbed a new battery at penrith on the way home and just got home..... and need to be at springwood at 5am for a Termite treatment tomorrow, so might not get a chance to get out tonight, but will try tomorrow. If it doesnt work then I will be doing the smartlock replacement and after that I am stumped. By the way, your mates a nice bloke, and you aint too bad either SWC........for a Mino boy
Thanks again for the ecu and will keep you all posted |
