Alright here goes nothing
Basicly what I want to know if it is possibe to use an EL ECU to run a EDIS system By removing the dissy/TFI module and using a EDIS-6 unit with a Megajolt and AU coil packs? The AU motor is fitted with the encoder wheel and the ECU has some outputs that are the same between the two different system, PIP and SPOUT (or SAW) AFAIK The megajolt will run the EDIS system standalone so you can edit timing and ignition maps, but I don't know if the EEC will like not getting a signal from the dissy!

better off keeping the dissy, and running a megasquirt to do fuel and spark.

Its just that I was trying to avoid running a dissy in an AU motor after the problems people have had with the AUX shaft

mate i've done it many of times,
the trick is dont run an aftermarket dizzy / gear. Use the std dizzy and you will be fine (even if you need to re-bush it) |

TFI and EDIS have the same wiring but use different algorithims in the EEC. They are NOT interchangable.
TFI module controls the dwell and fires the coil on the falling edge of the PIP signal. EDIS use a function called Spark Angle Word (SAW) to control the advance and dwell. Here is some good info on the EDIS modules. http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/EDIS.htm |

Humm ok!
Ol mate on the megajolt forum reckons that it might work by only connecting the PIP like to the ECU and the megajolt will control the spark Quote: I think this can be very easy. The tfi module produces a PIP (Profile Ignition Pickup) signal, as does the EDIS unit. Now i am pretty sure you could tap this to both the ecu and megajolt from the EDIS. Then just omit the ignition side of things from your ecu and use that for fuel only. Megajolt will then control the ignition.
Does anyone else agree with what i have said?? Or would the PIP signal be diffeent?

Oh and out of interest, what would be required to make an EF ecu standalone? Eg JUST control the motor?

what have you got, ie car, engine and ecu.
like i suggested before, go the megasquirt, either using a dizzy, or using the CAS and coilpacks. Dont bother messing around with EDIS etc. EF ecu will run the engine as long as you have the harness from the ecu to the engine, and a smartlock signal into the ecu |

Its an ED falcon, I'll be converting to manuel with ECU 1DAD
Dose the EF ECU require the cas?

yes ef requires cas and sync.
If its an ED, and your going manual, then just put a megasquirt in it. Easy to do, and you have control over fuel and timing, as well as options for launch control etc |

is there tunes available for the 6? I'd don't have any idea about tuning ect!
What about cost?

That all said, the EDIS is a better solution IMHO. The only problem with EDIS is the coil packs sometimes die. You can prevent this usually by shifting the mount point and giving it some heat/water protection.
Distributors are a pain in the a***. |

If I went the MS route, would somone have a tune for an AU ?

If you want to convert your TFI ignition to EDIS have a read of this
