I am looking at J3 chipping my EF XR6, but want to make sure it is worthwhile. I know there are gains at WOT, but 99% of driving is not at WOT. I am interested especially in part-throttle output and efficiency. If the ECU is operating in closed loop most of the time, and the fuel is determined only by the oxy sensor, without reference to the maps, then chipping should make no difference.
1) When does an EF XR6 operate in closed loop? (eg, throttle position, load, etc) 2) Does closed loop control fuel only? or also ignition timing? Sorry about the basic questions, but I am a newb at ECU programming, so go easy on me Thanks for your help.
