Ok most might think this is a straight out no, it might be for all I know thats why we're here eh.
The question is, could it be possible to run an EF engine in an EF or EL using an AU engine loom / ECU etc?? It would be an non-vct setup So what would be required if it could work? cheers |

What are you are trying to achieve? Perhaps there could be another way to get the results your after.
If it's to do with the ECU then it would be much easier to reprogram the EF EL one with something like a J3 chip as they are quite universal. You might run into issues with the the coil pack and distributor differences. I don't think the AU engine loom would match up with anything to do with the dash. A lot of things with the E Series are universal and the main thing from the AU that get's mixed (modified) in with the E series is the Engines. Like i said if you explain what your trying to achieve then we could help you. Regards.

yes you can do it to get the sequential operation and other features that the au offers...but be prepared to do some minor/major (depending on your capabilites) re-wiring...
you will need the most (all) of the au sensors and au ecu etc.... hardly worth it in my opinion unless there is a reason u must have it

Ideally would like to still run coil pack but in an EL with speed sensative steering and all the goodies that came with the ELII fairmont. Was thinking AU fairmont ecu would have these capabilities
What would you suggest would be a good way to go about this? Would reprogramming EF ECU for these functions work or not really? Idea is for a project car to kinda have the best of both worlds from an EF and EL, and going to be rebuilding an EF engine with some work done to it to be dropped into an EL |

Is there much of an advantage of running coil and dizzy compared to coilpack?
Have a mate whose an auto-electrician and keeps telling me its a step backwards and why would i bother lol |

It is and it isn't a step backwards, running the EF coil ssystem is but, look at all the "top" preforming cars granted they have expensive product but 9/10 run a coil pack to each plug system.

i guess for now running the dizzy setup with be alright, the plan is to work the EF engine I have here with a manual and pop it into an EL which will be a project / weekender car
