hey guys,

i bought an ef futura last night threw some old plates on it and drove it home- on the drive home i noticed that the electricals- air con, cd player etc switched off from time to time but when i rattled the key back and forth in the ignition they came back on.

Its rather strange but has anyone had this happen before or does anyone have any ideas on whats wrong and how to fix it?

Cheers

Nathan

If it was an ignition problem wouldnt more than just the cd player and air con turn off? Wouldnt the lights also die?

guaranteed ignition lock...

E series barrels are prone to it... Had to replace one on my brothers...

Everything on the accy wire wont power... You will find your headlights are not on the accy wire, as they will turn on with the car off (hence headlight reminders, they wont on modern falcons when left on "auto" though )... Anyway... Something buggers up in the switch part on the back of the barrel which does not come off so you must replace the whole barrel with a second hand unit...

Things like cd player and air con are the most noticeable things that don't work...

Time to search for a good second hand one and new shear bolts can be purchased from ford...

Cheers,
Tim

You can pop the key section out of the other part of the barrel and hence you don't need to replace every lock...Just clip your tumbler (key part) into a new switch (outter part)... Unless of course the key and barrel is worn and hard to start...
