Maybe MAP sensor check wiring and that the vac pipe is connected.

Are there any fault codes on the ECU???????????????

How would I check for fault codes. I know where the diagnostics plug is but what would I be able to use to check for codes?

I'd beleive there's 12 ECUs. But as I said you really only need one that's EL, XR, and Manual. Any 'versions' of that won't matter.

Here's a few types for ya.

EL, I6, Auto
EL, I6, Auto, Cop (Chaser)
EL, I6, Manual
EL, XR6, Auto
EL, XR6, Manual

Don't know if there's a cop version of all of them. So yeah I could see 12 being possible.

Another thing with converting from auto to manual is to make sure the trans temp sensor input is reading 'normal' and the range selector thinks it is in neutral.

Otherwise the ECU will try and perform torque reduction (timing retard) at the auto shift points. Result is funny power dips as you accellerate.
Also if the trans temp input is reading too hot it tries to restrict engine power.

At the end of the day best to get a manual ECU since all the little adjustments will be in there to make it run better. Mine does idle adjustments with the clutch in when it is cold to help with stalling.

Yep, done all the trans temp and gear pos stuff. Runs bloody well I must say. Its driving really smoothly and the idle seems to be quite good. I am extremley impressed with the amount of power that the manual is delivering compared to the auto. Its giving me a real buzz driving it!
