Ok, I have just done the auto to manual conversion and am having trouble tricking the ecu so I have decided to get hold of a new/second hand ecu. I rang one place and he was telling me that there are 12 different types of ECU. BUGGA!!!!! He was also saying that he could get them but every time we opened a bag and it didnt work, it would cost me $150!! Not worth it. So I called Ford and they said that they wanted a part number. I could have given a part number but then I would have gotten an auto ecu. Same as if I gave them a VIN.

Do any of you guys know of a way of getting a part number off the auto ecu to allow them to get a manual ecu? Or if there is any way of finding out what ecu I need? If I go an aftermarket replacement ECU, will that fix my troubles or cause more?

Look at your ECU it will have a barcode at the top and a string of numbers, post that string here, and someone will help you with what manual ECU you need, but basicaly i have never heard of 12 different ones in the manual.

That's not a part number of a XR6 ecu? That's a stocky part number.

I dont think it supposed to XR, he just wants to know what manual ECU to get based on whats in the car already.

No, the car is XR but there is a bloody good chance that is a stocky ECU. It has a speed limiter and from what I have read the XR's didnt as they had a Tickford balanced Tailshaft. It seems to run the engine well enough when it was an auto but now its a manual, its blowin black smoke out of the exhaust and not cruizin properly. EG: get it up to 110 and try and keep it at that and the car jerks like as if I was pumpin the accelerator or somthin

drive is no good

NEUTRAL, make it think neutral, if it thinks its in drive with no feedback due to the auto missing it go limp mode i.e. 3rd gear mapping only.

Yup.

Yeah, try the neutral trick. That should get it humming.

But since you're missing the Tickford ECU, keep trying to find a EL XR Manual ECU. Doesn't really matter what code it is as long as it fits those three requirements.

The XR ECU's have some timing/injector changes should make the XR donk run better.
