Have a search around google for TFI. The system was used by Ford in the USA for many many years - so there's plpenty of reading on the matter.
Was used on EA, EB, ED, EL 6 cyl falcons over here and all EB-EL V8 engines. EF and AU 6 cyl had distributorless ignition.

More accurately the hall effect sensor in the Dizzy acts as a Cam angle sensor. That said, the cam angle sensor can give a better indication of crank angle than a crank angle sensor. Resolution is lower (every 120* as opposed to every 10*) but it can give detail of where the crank is in a 720* rotation as opposed to only knowing its position in the 360* rotation.

Hello,
Do EL's have a crank angle sensor? If so where? I've done search after search but can only find refrences to EF's. Are they the same? any help would be appreciated. |

i'm not sure if they have one, as i know its for the EF coil pack setup, so i'd imagine EL's wouldn't have them.
if they did i'd imagine they're in the same place as the EF, directly above the harmonic balancer. but i can't think of why an EL WOULD have one.

Crank angle in the EL is determined by the TFI system. i.e. To put it simply the distributor is responsible to communicating crank angle to the ECU.
