if the hose is loose behind the dash doesnt that mean i cant operate the flaps either way?

the hose might not be completely rooted in which case the flaps might still work but still allow a vacuum leak..

okai cool. ill try the petrol return line first and then the vacuum leak since the petrol return line is instant. thanks and ill get back to u all

let us know how you go, my economy is f**k s**t.

if im cruzing at 100km/h its fine, level road instant consumption sits on about 7. however accelerating off the line to about 3000rpm the instant consumption jumps to at least 80 most of the time.

I have a standard EL Auto Wagon running a police pack computer, i average approx 13 to 15l per 100 klm around town and approx 10l per 100 klm on the highway ( 75L tank) , mine runs midway on the temp gauge and have checked or cleaned the entire fuel system but still get crappy fuel economy around town regardless of how i drive it. I ran it on premuim for a while and got worse fuel economy so i went back to unleaded, any ideas?

i wouldnt mind 13-15 around town. im on 15.5atm. thats after 350km. 100km of freeway, 150 of city and 100km on a cruise. (averaged 13.5 on the cruise)

its f**k :D

okai i tried to check the return lie by unplugging the return line from the pump....had some difficulties since the tube was a bit tad long and couldnt pull it out properly so i just gave up and left it there hoping the return line is fine. then i went and unplugged the vacuum hose and put sticky tape on the end so that there was no more leak (so i hope) and im driving around with a full tank. going to auto salon now so ill tell yas how the fuel goes on the way there.

cheers

phong =P~

EDIT: scrap that my cousin is driving me. but ill get back to u all when i do drive the car =D

I actually got that info from a website called redbook.com.au which gives you vehicle prices. That info was under the heading of vehicle specifications, it appears to be a handy little website but i think the prices that they quote for used vehicles is a bit low

phongus! how much u get out of a full tank? man.. i fill up, and if i drive normal. which is, driving quite good and the odd flooring here and there... i get around 450 to a tank, and if i do some HW km's, i might push 500.. but usually mid to low 400's. which kinda sucks caz alot of people are saying they get alotttttttt more then i do, weird huh.. mines a manual too. i shud be getting better economy.
is there some place i could take my car and they could fix everything that might be making the car run rich?

jeeze guys, 450-500 a tank?... i still got over a quarter tank in mine.. and ive already done 435ks... thats flooring it a bit... and granny driving the rest...

Why is half the people here getting really s**t economy... mines great!... and with my old EL Futura V8... i was getting 500-600ks out of a tank... and my Fairmont is getting a touch more... about 620ks is my best tank so far... thats with 50/50 city/country driving... none is really highway.. most of it is 50k zones ect.

i'd be going to down to ford and buying a new thermostat. then, i'd be doing a diagnostic on it to see if its throwing any codes, like intake air temp or oxy sensor etc, then i'd be looking into injectors and stuff then vaccum lines

im lucky to better 15.7 per 100k average, but thats cos i drive only 5 klms to work and the car doesnt really ever get to operating temp

I have an EA with dual point injection, it was running fine six months ago when i stopped driving it to do a bit of body work. when i started it back up the other day it started running really rich with lots of black smoke out the back. I've checked the o2 sensor and changed the air and fuel filters. i've just pulled the injectors out and I'm going to change the seals tonight. i've read a few things in these forums and running rich maybe the result of a temp sensor problem, o2 sensor, stuffed injectors, computer problem or maybe even a throttle position sensor problem. blowing down the fuel return line may be a good idea.
