Hey guys.
Re the fans. I tried to get my fans to trigger off the ECU but it just wouldn't play ball. I am still using the Davies Craig temp switch. Mind you, I wasn't using factory relays etc, and my A/C wasn't working. It also worth pointing out that the EL ECU has additional pinouts that control the Auto Climate and the A/C in the EF and EL cars. If these wires are not receiving the expected info, the ECU may not know what to tell the thermo fans what to do. Everything else worked fine though. Oh, and my First Sedan was and EB11 Non Smartlock. BenJ

I had the auto problems you described when I put an EL ecu in my EA. Turned out to be a faulty wire I had put in, the S5 one. Was getting a bit of resistance on it so it must have shorted out somewhere. Ran a new one and it's good as gold.

The same problem with my son's NC Fairlane 91. Engine was swapped to 4L, auto from EB1, TCU removed, Smartlock system fitted, Was controlled by EB/ED XR6 ECU- don't like shifts at all, 1DKC works much better, but still not right.

Guys,
Still having problems here. We put the EB ECU back in as the car was undrivable with the auto misbehaving. Any ideas? Harsh shifts make it seem like a line pressure issue, but the odd shifting on a mild kick down was a bit weird. None of this behavior with the EB ECU. No faults were thrown on the EL ECU which gave any hints as to what it might be, so we're left scratching our heads. Could it be a marginal inhibitor switch, or something like this? Jason

Just a thought? Does the car have an electronic shift kit?
If it does, then the resistor values, which will be fine for the EB ECU will be wrong for the EL ECU and will result in very hard up and down shifts. BenJ

nice logic, but nope, it doesnt.
do the 91LE and 93LE solenoids have different resistances?

There are logic differences in the ECUs, requiring different resistor values in the Shift Kit depending on if you use an EB or EL ECU. The boxes are the same electronically.

eb dont have a tcm do they
i just thought then that maby the el shift paterns are matched to the el diff ratio but this eb might have a different diff ratio to the el that this computer came out of. because if this eb has a different diff ratio to the el this computer came out of the shift paterns are gunna be way out of wack while where on topic about the el ecu and thermo thing i thought i might ask yas, with my ea ive fited the el auto ecu in my car thats manual but ive done the resistor mod thing, but if i try and run my thermos off the el ecu will the thermo fan operation be all over the place. thankyou good luck with the eb jason and by the way how much you after for a j3 chip with a el xr6 manual file on it. regards Trav |

All the symptoms you describe were apparent in my XG when the S5 solenoid was dead in the auto, even the erratic downshifts, aswell as missed gears. Perhaps pin 38 (s5 output) in your EL ECU is damaged?? Check for corosions of the pin or slip the case off and check the solder inside the case for evidence of moisture, ECU may have been wet at some point from a leaking windscreen or heaterbox.
Cheers David

mmm. If its the ECU, it will be the second EL ECU i've had problems with in this car. I need to find another EL to test it in, or another EL ECU to try in the EB...

el ecu in my nc2 fairlane worked great, basicly ed should work with a eb2 same box, has this only played up since the ecu changes ,maybe a pin prob at the conector or selector /inhibitor switch prob the only codes sholud be for the fans and the bbm , i put in the soliniod for the bbm under dash just to keep the ecu happy and had all the fan wiring etc from a el, no more codes

OK, another update...
Tried another ECU (thanks DJ_Brown), same problems. It seems to misbehave mostly when cold, but sometimes when warm too. Sometimes it behaves perfectly. I doubt its wiring related as the car behaves perfectly on the EB ECU. I put a multimeter on the S5 solenoid line when it was playing up and the pattern seemed the same as with the EB ECU. It drops to around 10v iirc just before shifting. Any other ideas? It throws no trans related fault codes either. Jason

Anyone have any ideas on this? The car runs so much better with the EL ECU -- apart from the shifts which feel like the engines about to fly out...
