I think that's correct - I haven't looked much into it.
May need to revisit http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=57399 & http://www.fordmods.com/forums/5-0-ecu- ... 48222.html .

Just sent our other resident guru 66 couple a PM. In those links you posted snap, he has made reference to some modules etc to cover this issue.

Well if you're using an EF/EL V8 auto ECU, it needs to see a TTL signal, so either a plug in box, or use an EF/EL V8 TCM, otherwise an EF/EL V8 manual ECU.

The TTL is pin 3 of the TCM going to pin 34 of the ECU (EECV)

I have...

12v Trans limp mode or fault
0v temp sensor faulty
10Hz - 40Hz signal to indicate temp increasing.

I believe codes 636 or 637 on the ECU will show this fault.

You can do a self test on the TCM, if error 67 is present then the link is buggered. (This error shows up if the ECU is tested before the TCM)

The TCM gets data from pin 43 of the ECU into pin 18. Pin 43 is the DOL and also sends data to the instrument panel. The data received is gear level position, coolant temp & air con status to compensate for shift pressures.

I'm sure this is buggered somehow one my beast because I'm still getting a shift level error on the TCM.

Thanks dazza. I just hope that I can find a EL TCU as I dont think my ED TCU will give the correct output from its pin 3. If the temp link is the same frequency as the EB-ED reverse gear frequency then it's happy days.

You should be able to use an EF one as well. Think they are pretty common, just the manual ECU's are hard to get. Let us know how you get on. Will be able to get one here (NZ) and post it across if you get really desperate.

I'll give my other mate a call who I've got the DL LTD ECU from and see if he has the TCU. I'll keep this thread updated with progress and final completion. So far, this is where I'm up to:

Fitting an EF dash loom to an EL does result in a couple of incompatible connectors - you may find same with an ED - possibly more. Get ready to do some soldering and splicing.

I know how you feel, my photo gallery says it all!

Drove down the road the other day with gears!! the novel things often bring the biggest smile... followed by a few beers.

I guess my install was easier coz it was done from scratch so I could afford to dispose of a lot of wiring..bah who needs all those creature comforts anyhow!

Well wait theres more!! Here I have been busy trying to identify all the wires that join the ECU loom via 2 plugs. Theres about 30-40 wires here that no doubt suit the 4.0L motor. I guess here I'll add a couple of wires for the TCM to suit. Now that I have identified all those wires, I can move onto the thermo fan relay box and re-arrange them to suit the DL ECU. I'll be running my Bendix ABS setup so there will be a few wires to play with there too. Let the fun begin!!

UPDATE. Ended up getting the correct TCU off the DL LTD for another $50, so that gets rid of another problem.

SUCCESS!! I started up the car the other day. Fired up first go and settled into a nice cammed lumpy idle without stalling. I have successfully made a stand alone Bendix ED ABS loom that fully functions. I have to get a door style central locking actuator for the tailgate some time to finish off the job.

I have another issue with the climate control. I'll start a thread for that in the appropriate forum.
