Hi Guys.
I have two questions i hope someone can help me out with. 1. I am looking at installing an XR6 3.45:1 LSD diff into my EL Fairmont, but i have been informed if doing so i need to change my ECU to an XR6 otherwise it won't change gears at the right rev's can anyone confirm this, which isn't a problem i'v got an XR6 ecu in my possession which leads me to question 2. 2. The XR6 ECU that i have in my possession is an 6TBB which i'v looked up on this site to be a "police spec" what i'm asking is their any major difference between this ECU and a normal EL XR6 ECU, ethier way i'm getting an SCT chip installed and tuned. Any help would be much appeciated. Thanks. |

As far as i know, once the chip is installed, it shouldn't matter.
I don't see how the XR6 ECU stops the gearbox doing silly things. It shouldn't matter. Way to find out. Test both ECU's with the 3.45

If your car is an Auto, the XR Auto ECU has mapping to suit the 3.45 gears. In addition the XR Auto ECU has firmer changes in power mode, and revs out a bit further, and will kick down a gear more enthusiastically.
The 3.45 will still work with a stock ECU. I found when I had the combination it was only when slowing to a halt the down shift felt awkward. Hardly noticeable really, but still there. You can also use an EL Fairmont Ghia ECU as these also have the tickford spec maps. Cheers BenJ
