Im just have a question about wide band controllers. I can get a dual wideband and was wondering if i can connect it to my EMS 4424?
Do i even need a wideband or is it only for tuning? here is the one im thinking of http://tunertools.com/proddetail.asp?prod=AEM-30-2300 |

The EMS motorsport range ie: 8860, 6860, 4860 can take both wideband and narrow band, and be used for closed loop, but not sure about the stingers though.
As the widebands don't have a long life span, and are more expensive they are probably best used for tuning purposes, rather than for everyday. |

Its mostly for tuning altho some people like flashy gauges and dials, ive got my wb for tuning and to constantly monitor a/f.

This used to be the case, but isnt so true any more with latest generation sensors. A lot of OEM cars now have WB sensors as standard. They can last as long as a NB sensor (100,000KM++) if mounted correctly and not subject to conditions which would damage a NB sensor anyway. Jason

Jason That's good to know, as i have read many a story of people burning them out in a couple of hours with the wrong tune. |

Yep. The standard cast iron header bung position is way too hot for a heated WB sensor. Most extractors run the sensor quite far back (mine is at the firewall) which is much better. Putting it right after the turbo at the top of the dump is not such a good idea either. Running the car rich for a prolonged period will ruin the sensor too, as it can't burn the carbon off quickly enough. Plenty of info about on these things doing 200,000 in OEM cars.

So even if it.s not compatible with the stinger it's still worth having yeah? |

the stinger4 can run both wideband and narrow band 02 sensors to use for tuning or closed loop operation..
but the tunning and closed loop work best with the wide band sensor.. |

cheers guys, i have bought the dual wide band controller. Will probably use it in closed loop for the first month or so just to keep an eye on things while running engine in.

ok. I got my wide band controller. Then i did some reading of the stinger manual. It has 'tune analyzer' function which will allow me to set my AFR limits, then i basically go through all the load points and it makes adjustments accordingly. Correct, the stinger does take a wideband, so the sontroller i purchased is unnecessary. I may sell it on ebay and just get two bosch 4 wire's

im using the bosch 4 wire wideband sensor,
and it is actually very accurate, my tuner did a comparison with data logging while tuning on the dyno and said it was pretty much spot on.. ive heard wideband o2 sensors dont last as long as the std marrow band sensors, but only time will tell.. |

the AEM kit i have says the wide bands will last approx 80,000kms with normal unleaded, and a little less with alcohol.
