hi guys, ive just purchased an ems 8860 for my el xr6. and i was going to try and install it myself. i was just wondering if anyone could give me some hints or tips on installing it. am i correct in assuming the the ems will control the fuel, ignition, and idle and the standard ecu will still control the dash and smart lock. also do the els have sequential or batch fire injection? thanks for any help!

Hey Mate
EL's have Batch Fire.. 2 banks of 3 injectors. EMS will do your Idle, Thermo's, BBM Switch, Spark, Fuel, Fuel Pump Relay and A/C request. The factory ECU is only required to run the Auto, Trip Computer and Climate Control (Fairmont up) I wired my MoTeC up in the backyard myself, its not a hard job at all, just cut and join! Cheers

cheers waggin, does that mean that i only use 2 of the injector outputs and bridge 3 injectors of the one output. or.... i just had a thought. can the ems run sequential injection??

I though the 88 in 8860 meant 8 spark outputs and 8 injector outputs
You can run 2 outputs with 3 injectors each, 3 outputs with 2 injectors each, or 6 outputs with 1 injector each. Makes life easier for tuning fuel at idle with big injectors!

cheers guys. so its as easy as cutting into the injectors, tfi module, tps, isc, and joining them up to the EMS. what about the MAP sensor, does that get used or left disconnected? the EMS has a port in it which i am assuming is its own MAP sensor, or is only a boost reference for turbo applications?? the EMS agent here in Adelaide wanted to charge me $700 to wire up and tune it on my falcon. a bit much i thought !!

do you guys reckon it would be wise to wire the ems up in stages, eg only the spark or only the fuel. that way if something went wrong i only have half of the headaches??

Throw out the falcon MAP sensor, as the EMS has an inbuilt MAP sensor.

Nah, do it all at once, otherwise the car wont run anyway. If it doesnt start, you can just do simple diagnostics to find out what is, and what isnt working.

You can wire it for fuel only to get it up and running and sort out the fuel side first, then when your happy with the A/Rs wire it up for ignition...
This is the way Ive done my Wolf, its accually still running fuel only as Ive being to slack to set it up for ignition. This is on a dizzy driven ED though |

thats not a bad price for wiring and tune. we charge $500 for wire up. and the first tune is $400. each additional tune $200 most people have 3 or 4 tunes |

yeah that is cheep!
The 8860 is just come out with their new sequential injection which is kewl. The new self tuning stuff is also great, save alot of time and money. I have a 8860 too, but i have a adaptor plug which i wired up. So basicly i wired up my lil adaptor first then all i had to do was plug it up and off i went.
