hi guys
can i hook up a std ford narrow band o2 sensor to the ems stinger so i can use the closed loop mode in the ecu? as it has 3 options. narrow band, 4 wire wideband or 5 wire wideband. i know for best results i probably should have the wideband but if it has the option for narrow band will iy work? because at the moment it has no 02 sensor connected at all.. if i can use the factory o2 what wire does the signal go to? lambda+ or lambda-? |

For ome reason the EMS doesnt like the ford O2 sensors. I dont know why. I have an LC1 in mine, but will soon have 2 of them as the 8860 can run 2, 1 for each bank

terrorist, can you give me a little run down on EMS, im twin turboing my 5.0 and am considering one of the ems range but dont know which one. I know ideally id get the 8868, but am keeping costs down so dont know what il be missing by just getting a 4468 or even th 66 series?
Also i have been introduced to megasquirt and am also considering building one and having a play. What do you think? |

troy, for best results use an AU or BA o2 sensor, and connect the black wire to o2+ and grey to 02- and the two whites to the existing two whites on the std o2 connector.
EMS is quite limited with closed loop settings, I normally run them in open loop only. If the tune is good then part throttle and cruise A/F ratios should be spot on. How did you get on with the idle? eboost, if you want to go with EMS, then go the 8860, alternatively if you have the skills, then go a megasquirt, ive used them on plenty of different motors all with good results. Look into the Extra code as it has a lot of features built in that you only find on high end ecu's. If your worried about reliability (i havent had a failure) then you can buy a second megasquirt as a spare, and you will still be in front cost wise. |

How did you get on with the idle? cool thanks for that.. ill try the ba o2 and see what happens. not so much luck with the idle. i got the isc to operate but it has trouble controlling it but this may have something to do with the low rpm tune? it hunts for idle untill the temp gets to about 190 deg. i think the tune is good for outright power but not so much in the cruising side of the tune.. the car has a slight surge at about 1400rpm under light load and hunts at random.. so im hoping i can fit an o2 sensor and hopefully it will help the idle and low rpm cruising? otherwise its off to get re tuned.... |

flatten out your fuel map in the 4 closest idle bins, also take some timing away at idle, to around 12 degrees and see if that helps. Get it right hot, then setup your cold start multipliers the next morning. Tune for what the motor wants, not for a/f ratios in the low bins

thanks mate.
ill have alittle play and see what happens. few more quick questions. also i assume the ba 02 sensor is still narrow band??? and can i still connect the after market afr gauge to it?? if so does the arf gauge signal wire go to lambda + or -.?? |

yeah mate, still narrow band, and not ideal for tuning. It will only indicate where stoich is, and not too much else from there. You can connect a gauge (like the jaycar one designed for a narrowband), to the sensor black wire / lambda +, but if your going to do your own tuning, invest in an innovate LC1. You can get them for around $250.

cool thanks for your help..
i hooked the ba o2 up and i already had an aftermarket gauge which is also connected. everything seems to be working ok..im not experienced enough to play around with the tuning side just yet..lol at the moment im just interested in getting some kind of closed loop operation working. will the narrow band put the ecu into closed loop? and do you know the closed loop range? (idle to ? rpm) while we are on the 02 subject.. on the ems ecu setting screen. ive got the operation mode set to narrow band 14.7. now would you know what the allowable change % should be set at? ive got it at 10%. and the operating range is currently set at -30 kpa?? im not sure how it should be set.. im on a big learning curb with this ems. so if you could help, it would be appreciated. |

yeah use 10% as a starting point, and about 40-50kPa (depends how much vac u have when your cruising - email me a datalog if you like).
If closed loop needs to +/- more than 10% then your base tune is out... |

i did a short 5 min run around the local area and did a data log and did another one idling with a couple of free revs. if you dont mind ill email them to you and can you give me your opinin.? ive also noticed its pinging under boost so i think it needs to be tuned again. i didnt think much could change to cause the tune to go bad? |
