Mate, I would shop around and do some research on costs and respectable tuners. You may get a better deal if you find a tuner/workshop to do the complete install and tune for a reasonable price. Or you could do as much as you can yourself and then have it tuned.
Depends on how confident you are about wiring it in and getting the engine to run. I would imagine that a work shop would charge between $3-4000 to supply fit and dyno tune If you do as much as you can yourself, costs should come down a little ECU approx $1000-$1200 Dyno tune budget $800-$1200 depending dyno rates and allow a full day to tune properly Can I suggest also that you purchase a wideband O2 sensor I have purchased one to help me to tune mine. All up cost should come in aprox $2000 - $2300 You can purchase all the parts you need ignitor and ECU direct from EMS which will come with loom and software cd. Oh, If I did'nt already have the Stinger I'd be looking at buying the 8660 or 6880 so that I could run sequential injector firing and also have the option of running individual coil packs. But if your doing it to a budget the stinger will work just fine. |

Some good points there, thanks for mentioning them.
I had a chat to Hyperdrive Performance in Perth today, they recommended that i use the 6806 (which was what i was leaning toward). They also told me to budget for not much more than $3000 for the ECU, install and dyno tune. Depending on how suitable the base map is, depends on how complex the tuning process will be. They also mentioned something about "bank injector firing" to prevent fuel rail pressure loss...does this sound right? Or did this completely go over my head? Haha! |

I see alot of people using an EMS 8860 on six cylinder engines, how does this work? I thought the 8860 was to suit 8 cylinger engines . Also on www.enginemanagement.com.au (in the 'maps' section) theres not a single 6860 being used by anyone.
I'm just confused as to why the 8860 would be used on a 6 cylinder engine. Am i better off sticking with the 6860 and two, three coil igniters as planned? Or go the same way as everyone else and use the 8860? Please help! This is getting confusing! AAAARRRRGGH!!! |

Since when is there a 6860 or a 4860? There isnt, there is only a stinger and an 8860.
You dont need to use all of the inputs and outputs on an 8860. Your turn the ones you dont use off. |

They actually list the 6860 and 4860 here.. http://www.enginemanagementsystem.com/products.htm I dunno whether the lack of injector and ignition drivers makes them cheaper though? They are probably just 8860s with the extra pins removed LOL

Have now
Find out if you can use the extra 2 injector outputs for other stuff. If not then its useless to you. 6860 or 8860 will both do the job and let you have sequential injection/ignition. Stinger and 4860 will only let you have batch fire and injection. |

Are you absolutlu\y sure about that. I have been told by a tuner who uses the 8660 a lot that it had this capability |

He is probably thinking about VCT as in supra or early skylines.
The BA/BF VCT system is much more complicated. |
