Right, i know this is a massive subject and i do feel quite uneasy and nOOb-ish asking this, but how can it be done? How can an EMS Stinger be implemented to run my BA engine conversion?

Firstly, i'm not worried about any other systems ie: ABS, air conditioning, VCT etc.

Secondly, can anyone shed some light on factory sensor compatibility with the Stinger? I have a 6 cylinder EL Fairmont, which obviously, has a distributor type igniton system. Will the Stinger be able to bypass all this and implement the coil-on-plug ignition and use the factory crank angle sensor?

Also will the implementation of the EMS affect the operation of my [auto] gearbox? What other systems will be affected and what sacrifices will i have to make to run this new ECU?

Any help will be HUGELY appreciated, but is this something i should be asking EMS?

Factory crank, NO, coil on plug yes
Need the EMS Coil ignitors for coil on plug, and see if you can source a dissy that has both cam and crank sensor in it. Did this with my V8 using the enemies dizzy, but it soesnt distribute spark, just provides cam and crank sensors

Thank's for the advice Terrorist, but will it work the same way as your V8 on a 6 cylinder? I don't think there is a provision to fit a distributor on a BA engine is there? I could be wrong, but these are the things i need to clear up.

EDIT: Also, if i can't use a distributor as a CAS, what else can be implemented to measure crank revolutions?

Also how do igniters work and how are they tied into the ignition system?

The EMS will run your BA engine. Ems needs ignitors to provide spark to coils. I used two x 3 coil ignitors, It uses the crank angle sensor and missing tooth system as the trigger.

Has injector drivers to operate injectors.

To my knowledge the EMS will require you to fit seperate air and water temp sensors VN ones seem to be the choice. With calibration tables already supplied.

You will need to fit manual throttle body as the EMS does not control drive by wire setup on the BA.

So all you really need is some ford BA wiring diagrams and follow the EMS connection diagrams and you'll have it running in no time. EMS already have some base maps to get you started.

Use the factory ECU to control auto just use EMS to run engine should work fine. It did on my XR6turbo

Can use factory Air temp sender, water needs a specific, Had a "double adapter made for mine, so both ECU's see water temp, but spliced into factory supply for Air, and there is a conversion chart in the EMS help file for ford sensors

Wow! Some very firm answers there guys, thankyou both very much for your help! This project has gone from being just a simple N/A BA engine conversion to a full pistons and rods etc. rebuild for a big turbski's. Now....i just need to sell my bike.... :D

I certainly will do. Plans have changed yet AGAIN, i'm not going to rebuild the engine just yet, im just going to run it as is in N/A form untill i get the funds to do theturbo side of things properly.

Thanks Mickey, i'll give them a call sometime and test their knowlege.

In the meantime, i have noticed EMS have several ECU's mainly the 4860, 6860 and 8860. Does the 2, 4 and 8 refer to the ammount of cylinders it can run? Or is it just a feature level? (eg: 4 is less features and 8 is most features)

EDIT: Also does the ECU itsself come with a wiring loom? I have a funny feeling it doesnt, as some websites offer it as an 'extra'.

Its the number of ignition and injector outputs, so unless you go wasted spark and banked injection you'll need the 6860.

^^^ as Steady said, 6860 is for 6 bangers, 4860 for 4 pots, and 8860 for V8's. EMS do their own ignitors, I run a single 4x1 ignitor, and use the Factory AU coilpacks. If i was to run another 4x1 then i could run coil on plug for the V8, but i am starting to run out of room in the engine bay.

If you have brought the EMS directly from them it should come with the wiring loom.

Have you already purchased the Stinger?

No, i havn't got it just yet, i'm wondering if i should get the ECU as a package deal from a tuner, you know, get the ecu, have it installed and dyno'd by a workshop for a better price, OR buy the ECU, install it myself and with the help of a mate and tek it to a tuner and have the dyno work done.....just have to figure out the right deal.

Looking at the loom you get with the ECU i'm leaning toward getting someone else to do the work HAHA!
