Does anyone know if you can adjust the idle speed on a 2009 FG 6cyl non turbo without a flash tune. Would like another 50 to 100rpm. Any help would be appreciated.

I would ask a few ford tunings shops over your way on prices, xft here in perth charge around 1800-1900 for a tune including the flash tuner.
If I were you id make sure I had done all the mods to the car before tuning,eg,extractors, exhaust, cai, etc, whatever else you do to an n/a 6. Its not a cheap exercise to just bump the idle a bit so may as well make the best of it and get all mods done to get the most out of it. Before any of that make sure your t/b is clean and check plugs, air filter etc and make sure its all running sweet because that may affect idle speed, maybe even reset the ecu. |

What about supplying a bit more information as to why you want to increase the idle.

All i want to do is overcome the rattle/vibration at idle in gear that heaps of people complain about with FG 5 speed autos. Complained to ford about it as per everyone else and get told that it is a characteristic of the vehicle. That's s**t. I bought the car brand new and never optioned a rattle! Has done it since approx. 12000kms . After 20 mins of driving it is gone. If I hold engine revs 50 to 100rpm more noise isn't there. Pisses me off that the first car I have bought new is a rattly piece of s**t. I'm not chasing performance I would just like a nice idle. Car idle quality is ok apart from rattle/vibration. I'm almost thinking it may be in cat converter and once it gets to a certain temp it goes away. Being that most time I'm driving under 20 mins each its annoying as hell. |

You need to find a decent ford dealer or complain directly to head office.
Our brand new fg turbo ute was a big pos too,so many warranty claims... Fg has a few inherent issues ford never bothered to fix. I ended up selling my g6et and got a s3 au xr8,fgs are rubbish imo, great motors, look nice and that's about it. |

From what you are describing it sounds like a rattle in the cat, I put up with my bf rattling till I could not handle it any more and put a new one on. Very common problem.

I think your right. What should I expect to pay for a new cat converter. I'm not chasing performance. Any recommendations? |

Have you been under the car to check the cat to see if its rattling?

Don't feel confident enough with the s**t ford handbrake, leaving it in gear idling to do so. Does feel like its under my seat though. That being said, had to put another battery in it today. Needs a new one every 2 years and one month. Just enough to be out of warranty. Think I'm going to sell the S@#tbox and buy a Hyundai. Has had more issues from brand new than any other car ive owned and everything else ive owned has been second hand. |

Get under it when its cold and give the cat a couple of knocks with your fist.
If it makes any rattles at all its rooted. |
