Does anyone know if you can run a high stall with a EB XR6 ECU without it going into limp home mode?
I fitted the BBM on the weekend and put an EL GLI ECU in and the gear changes are heaps softer (even with a shift kit mod) and it won't change down in gears unless you push the accelerator through the floor!
The EMS 8860 i fitted can run the vaccuum switch for the BBM and the thermo fans, but i wanted to still run the EB XR6 ECU without having to buy an EL XR6 ECU.
Thanks,
Dave.

So you have an EMS 8860 installed, running the engine, and the EBXR6 ECU controlling the transmission, along with a shift kit on top of that?

Has the ECU got all the required inputs? Speed, RPM, load?

Cheers

Whatabout an E-series V8 trans control computer davey?

Regarding the kickdown... the TPS voltages getting to the EL ECU are OK?

With the hi stalls... i think there are folks making hi stall converters which "agree" with ford ECUs... or have you already bought/fitted a converter??

Did teh same as you Dave, It turns out the resistor values are different for the EL ECU to control the Auto Trans, I suggest you find the EL shift kit specs and the EA to ED shift kit specs then you will see the difference, the shift is way better, in hard shift whilst acellerating hard, the shift cange is dramatic.

Thanks for the reply's fellas!
The 8860 controls the injectors and timing and shares the TPS and PIP wires. The ECU controls the rest as usual. The only problem i had with the EL ECU was the trip computer freaked out with the L/100km, not kicking back in gears quicker and shift firmness.(and lockup in 3rd)
Are the resistor values different between the EB and EL ECU's for the shift kit?.
I picked up a new 2800 rpm stall converter the other day and could'nt pass it up for $250!
The only thing i thought of with the trans problems was the power/economy switch, which shows 12volts on economy with the EB ECU and 0 volts on economy with the EL ECU. I tried the switch in both positions with the EL ECU but it didn't make much difference.
I was told/heard that you can only run a high stall with a EL ECU???
Thanks,
Dave.

Yeh , by memory the 1ohm resistor in the EB shift kit is 5.6 ohm in the EL ECU and the 18 Ohm is 20 Ohm in the EL ECU, Hang on all resistors are 10 Watt Rated, available from Aztronics main north Rd Enfield, you can get resistors to make up the difference like a 2 ohm or 2.2 ohm for the 18 ohm total is then 20 run in series and a 4.7 Ohm, (close enough) to make 5.6 Ohm.
