i started ripping apart the 94 ed fairmont i got at auction today to get parts out for my fairlane, and i came aross a module mounted under the center console marked "speed control unit", never having encounter this befor i thought id ask if anybody knows exactly what it is...

i assume its a speed limiter, but you never know till you ask..

I am not sure, but doesn't the fairlane climate system use an electronic module for fan speed control ?
If so as i suspect, maybe thats what you have in you hands ;)

PS: I am looking for EF/EL black steering wheel cruise control buttons.

speed limiters are controlled within the ECU's AFAIK - so no, i wouldn't imagine what you have is a speed limiter at all! :P

Pretty sure Fraser is right,
From memory the speed limiter is in the ECU

Not sure what you have found though, can you post pictures of it?

It is definately the speed controller for the fan. The climate control units have an electronically controlled fan. This has been covered heaps of times before.

Sorry, I speed read the question and thought he is talking about the dash.

The EA and EBI had the cruise module above the accellerator pedal, the EBII and ED had it in the centre console. EF and EL don't have a seperate module, theirs is built into the servo motor in the engine bay.

thanks, now i know what it is i can put the car back together, cos the car we were puting the wiring in is an 89 fairlane, so the crusie moduel is under the dash, that's where it fooled me
