Hi, just wondering where the best place to mount my fuel catch can is? I've been having a look online and have seen people mounting them in the boot and also under the bonnet. Seems to me that I wouldn't want a high pressure fuel supply running through my boot? Not sure though. Just wanted to find out where other people are putting them.

Just wanted to find out where other people are putting them. you mean surge tank/swirl pot set up.In the boot is the way to go theres no hot extractors or spark supply there.You use low pressure pump to from the fuel tank to surge tank then high pressure pump to your fuel reg in the engine bay.. phill |

Yeah a surge tank is what I meant. My only concern with the boot is that my battery and amp are mounted in there, but I see your point about extractors and what not. Where abouts do you mount the high pressure pump? Does it go next to the surge tank or will it draw all the way from the engine bay? That might sound stupid but I've never fitted one before (surge tank that is) and am trying to work it out as I go.

In QLD the legal rueling on placement for any fuel parts in the car is that it has to be 100mm inside any panel, leak free and it needs to be mod plated. that is why you see so many in the boot it is the easiest place to put them for cert. I have mine in the boot and it has been okayed for cert. If you have them in the engine bay they need to bee 100mm below the bonet level, not mounted to the inner guards or radiator support and some engineers are really anal about exhaust heat and wiring static. A really good option, espeially in your case, is to change to a drop tank and build it into the tank itself that does not have anywhere near the hassels as far as engineering. The pump can be any where in the system after the swirl pot and before the reg. The placement is not crutial, mine is right beside the swirl pot in the boot but i have seen them mounted under the car on the chassie rail. I have seen a VL with one in the engine bay and his pump was actually tapped into the swirl pot itself with a brass fitting.

As for line placement on the surge tank/swirl pot. Working from the highest fitting on the tank to the lowest,
top fitting = Supply line from main tank and standard pump Next one down = Overflow/ Return line back to main tank Next one down = Return line from motor Next one down = Hi Volume inline pump to motor The placement of hoses is not an exact science as long as the supply line from the main tank is at the top of the swirl pot and the hi volume pump is the lowest fitting on the swirl pot your system will work properly.
