Those with an EL XR8 with either auto or manual what are you getting per tank of fuel and what fuel do you use?
I'm looking at getting 450-500ks per tank. Mine is the 185kw version. Its about 100ks less than my Fairmont EL Ghia V8. My Fairmont is auto and the XR8 is manual so I would of thought the XR8 would of got more being a manual. But because it is slightly more powerful motor maybe thats why it isnt as efficient but I woudnt of thought 100kms different. The XR8 has done 200,000kms less too! I would like to know what others get out of their EL XR8s. Cheers |

I've only got the 170kw Manual.
Get around the 400-550km mark around town, depending on how its driven of course. On average, 650km on highway use. Have got all the way to Canberra from the West. Suburbs of Melbourne with 80km on the trip computer left. So that was getting 800km out of one tank. I use BP Ultimate most of the time, but always use Premium/Ultimate/Optimax, etc. I'm not too disappointed with the fuel economy of mine... My old ED Fairmont wouldn't get as far on the highway, and only got 450-550kms around town. Dave |

Cheers lol, you get 550-600km's out of your 165kw Ghia?, im getting 320km out of mine, and thats granny driving and on PULP......Time to Upgrade for me, lol and your fuel comsumption for a EL XR8 sounds about right to me, i just think your ghia is somehow alot better on fuel then normal, or did Ford change something in the EL V8 to use less fuel compared to the EB's?

Takes all the fun out of it. Storm I think my Ghia V8 is 170kw. HO manifolds and E7 heads and extractors as thin as straws from the factory. EL XR8 has Explorer manifold and E7 heads with ELGT extractors. I would of thought the manual would be better than the auto for economy but I think 5th gear isnt as tall as the autos overdrive. I'm not sure if the previous owner only run it on Ultimate 98 (probably not) and thats all I use. I've only put one tank through it since I bought it so it may take a bit more time to get better economy from it. I would be happy with 500-600km from a tank. I'll see if I can get that in a few ultimate 98 tanks use. Cheers for the info guys. |

I think thats good economy.
Lately lucky to see 350-400kms out of mine per tank, alth it is mostly 5min trips to work n back every day which cant help as its in peak hour traffic too.
