I went to pull out the fuel pump and realised its too hard to get too without jacking the car up. I suppose it would be too dangerous to just jack up 1 side. for other alternatives, should I invest in some chasis stands or a ramp? I just don't want the car to fall on me. In the past 2 weeks, i've seen a story on the news where a guys car fell on him and he died and another story where a guy changed his fuel filter, then set himself alight from a cigi so i'm just a tad paranoid. Also, i'm just getting the repco filter, apparently its the same as ryco.

stands are the way to go. i bought some yesterday from supercheap rated at 1200 or 1500 (i cant remember) kg each for $30.
I reckon they've paid for them selves already cause the jack slipped out from the car just after i put them underneath and the car didnt land on my head.

with the fuel filter make sure its an aluminium item, much easier to seal. i know the ryco is aluminium don't know about the repco.
and another vote for axle stands, $50 should get you some 3 tonne each items. i just prefer strong f**k as i use them alot. if your still paranoid with stands, then for reassurement get your spare and dump it under the car as well.

btw when u do change the filter make sure u release the pressure first before u undo the bolts. are u doing this to ur EA?
when i changed mine i didnt buy stands or raised the car. i just drove one side of the car onto the nature strip in front of my drive way and got under the car from my drive way =D it worked but at the time i forgot to release the pressure......petrol in ur eyes = pain. on my EL i raised it up on one side (i know bad idea) but i had 2 jack stands and 2 tyre jacks holding her up.......bit wee too much? good luck with changing them phong =P~

well u can a) do what fairy V8 said or b) unplug the fuel pump all together....i usually do it from the fuel pump because i seem to cut my finger on something when i pull the relay out.
anyways once uve done one of them start the car up until she stalls and then there shouldnt be any pressure left. but yeah if i were u get under the car. put the shifters in place, stick ur head out of under the car looking away from the thing and then turn it......if there is a bit of pressure and petrol leaking its because its coming from the filter and some on the fuel line but not much pressure......u can also put some goggles on. phong =P~

expect some petrol to drain out when to do undo the line, i had 2-300ml drain out even thou i released the preassure, by unplugging pump and starting.

OMFG!! I released the fuel pressure and then get under the car and loosen the 2 hose clamps. I try pulling a bit on one being cautious of fuel that might spray out. It wont budge so I pull harder. Then I try to wedge the screwdriver under it and I can't lever it nemore without breaking the hose. I start twisting the hose to try and get it off. After about 20minutes of f**k around, i've grabbed both hoses and am pulling them in opposite directions as hard as possible and they won't budge!!!! ne1 know y? could it be cause the fuel pump may not have been changed in a long while?
