Hey all,
The other night my 99 AU fairlane managed to get low enough on fuel for the light to come on (trip comp said 90klms till empty) I made it to the servo bout 5 klms after the light came on. Put $20 fuel in it and the light stayed on. So i put another $30 in it the next morning....still on. And yesterday i filled it up completly and the light is on, the gauge says empty and the trip comp keeps beeping and saying i have 0klms till empty. I have tried restting the computer by disconnecting the battery for over an hour, have unplugged/replugged the fuel pump, still to no avail. Is there any other trouble shooting tasks i can complete? Is it possible that my fuel sender is faulty? If so, how much are they to replace? Thanks in advance

The sender unit may be sticky. Have you tried giving the fuel tank a few hits on the top and underneath? See what happens. Also give the dash a tap above the fuel gauge. Gauge may be sticky. common problem on vn-vp commodores.

I will give the tank a few hits and see how things go, but i dont think the dash would be sticking. As the trip computer is reading 0. So i am thinking that the signal is not getting sent from the sender to the dash.
Cheers Matt

If none of the above works then I would be pulling the sender unit out and having a look.I had a customer's car do the same thing and something ,can't remember what it was , was holding the float down and it took a couple of goes to get the float to sit above the thing thing and then it was ok.Cheers Kevman.

it might be a problem with the computer that runs the instrument cluster, i have been told the fuel guage sender in the tank stops reading accurately as it gets older.

There is a chance the anti syphon tube has fallen into the tank and is stopping the float from coming back up. had is happen to me before.
just open the inspection hole and remove the pump, when you have it out, put your hand in the tank and feel around for any objects. it will stand out if the anti-syphon tube has fallen in. just pull it out. Yes it can be a PITA to get the pump out. also don't do it when the tank is brimmed. you will just get fuel everywhere. Hope this helps.
