Whining noise coming from rear end of car... Stuck my head underneath while its running, and sounds like it could be the Fuel Pump, (can't think of any other item that would be Moving while the engine is running, and car is stopped from this end of the car)
Where is the fuel pump located, and how easy is it to replace? Are there any other things that it might be? (Air in the line, electrical connections.... I don't know!) The fuel tank is pretty low at the moment, (filling up tomorrow) Could I have scavenged something into it? |

The fuel pump is located in the tank, under the carpet, under a big circular disc. The fuel filter is underneath the chassis to the rear of the car, but before the axle.

I'm pretty sure they all whine, mine does, at least you know it's going
 . I don't know how loud they should be, mine was replaced roughly a year ago.

mine was $221 all up, got it done about a month ago, that was through RACV service centre in macray

Yeah I think mine was $220 with labour, you can buy an aftermarket one, I think it's a Walbro 3XX. Not hard to do it yourself. The tool who replaced mine didn't replace some seal and when I had a full tank and parked on a hill I could see the fuel pissing out.

You can probably get the pump for around $160 and wouldn't take more than 30mins, so $280 is a rip, shop around.

yeah i think the pump was about $170 or something, but with labour it was all up $221, would have done it myself if it didnt break down new years eve...

I bought a Fuel Miser Brand Pump form Car-Rack (Autobarn Dandenong)
for $110 with all filters and other needed parts. I've found the best way to remove the hose clamp (large one) was with a tiny ¼ spanner, once loosened I de-pressurized the lines removed the wiring and plumbing. Made a large tool (piece of timber about 40cm's long and put in 2 large bolts at the same distance as the 'raised' lips on the plastic cap, Turns out to be a nice large sized multigrip minus the multi-bit! other than that..... its a 20 minute job.

False alarm.
There wasn't enough fuel in the tank and it was parked on an angle. Scavenging air. As soon as I filled it up, and let it run for a bit, the problem went away.  phew!

mine is 3 months old and sometimes whines and sometimes doesnt seems to be wokring fine tho
