In the EF/EL maunal there is a diagram to make your own tool to remove the black ring. its basically a bit of steel, a slit in the ends and have it bent. hard to describe.
i took mine out with either the blunt screw driver and rubber hammer trick or you get 2 BIG 'dont f**k with me' screw drivers nad you cross the and leaver them against each other. IF that makes sense. There is no need to put the big hose clamp on as really it is not neeeded. At the wrekcers i worked, when they did the pumps they didnt replace it. Be sure thaat the rubber ring is in the right place. If not you will have the problem i had when i got the car. That was when there is more then half a tank, you get the smell of petrol in the car.NOT GOOD. There is a fuel filter on the fuel pump. Its like a sock things. Check that for tears and wear. Are you replacing just the pump? or the whole assembly? The filter under the passenger door is easy to change. I did mine without jecking up the car and i aint little either (6f3i nearly 100kg 16yo) .

Well, this is my first post, but I've been a member here for quite a while!
I've found this thread really useful, as I attempted to change my EF sedan fuel pump today as well! Unfortunately I just could not remove the big hose clamp around the locking ring! Has anyone got any tips for that? |
