Is the EF sedan fuel pump the same as the EL pump?
I need to know because i have found a cheap EL pump and i think that may solve my starting problems. My car takes ages to start and im pretty sure it's because the pump isn't holding enough pressure in the lines so that when i go to start it it has to crank all those extra times to get the fuel to the engine? Does that sound right?? |

try turning the car to on for a few seconds till you hear the pump stop,then try starting it
if it starts straight away could be your problem if not prob something else |

Nope tryed that and it doesn't work but i think maybe the fuel pump is stuffed and maybe not pumping enough and thats why it needs to crank so much??

how recentley have you done plugs and leads?doesn't sound like the pump to me when they go they tend top just drop off not half work but doesn't mean that isn't the problem

I replaced my air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, lifters, thermostat, oil, oil filter, fan belts not very long ago. Ford ran a diagnostics and found nothing . It's also using excess fuel...

I have already replaced my filter. Even when it's babied it gets s**t fuel consumption. The pump sounds fine |

I've done two fuel senders in an EL and once I bought a whole EF pump/sender assembly. the only difference is the pipe connections at top. The EF has barbs and the EL has "quick connects", or vice versa, not sure.
Anyways, i'm told with some stuffin around you can make one fit the other, or remove the pump only, as i did with the sender.

i did an efi course the other day. the bloke running the show said that ef and au falcons had earth problems. he said that the shoddy earth made the computer think that you were accelerating when you weren't. apparently there is an earth connection in the harness near the ecu. it is covered with purple tape. if you pull off the tape and solder a piece of 6mm wire to it, then earth it to the body, voila ! instant better fuel economy.

e series pumps up to 03/98 are the same. From 03/98 onward (ie the last of the EL's) they ran the au type pump which is a pain in the a$$ to do anything with!

Does that sound right?? Hi there... Did you eventually solve your prob ? My XH I6 has a similar prob. Hard to start after sitting a short while..If i turn the key on and off a few times and hear the fuel pump whirrrr ..then it starts first go. I put a temp piece of clear fuel line near the fuel rail, and after i switched off..you could see the fuel level drop fast in the hose. Seemed to begin having this prob after i changed the fuel filter, but could have been a co incedence. |

Sounds like either the non return valve in the pump is leaking back or the regulator is not holding to the correct pressure OR a leak in the line from the pump to the fuel rail

Yeah thanks... I'm leaning towards the non return valve. To make matters worse its an outback with two tanks. Can i repair/rplace the non return valves in the pump(s) or is it a new pump fix job. Can't see any leaks between the pumps and the rail |
